On the semantic foundations of Probabilistic VERUS

چکیده
In this paper we explain the semantic foundations of the tool Probabilistic VERUS Har98]. A Probabilistic VERUS program P consists of sequential randomized processes S 1 ; : : : ; S k that are executed in parallel and that communicate via shared variables. First we give an operational semantics for the sequential components on the basis of a transition relation deened in the classical SOS-style a la Plotkin Plo81] which we use to specify the behaviour of the P by a Markov chain whose transitions stand for the cumulative eeect of the activities of the components S 1 ; : : : S k within one time step. Second, we provide a denotational semantics for P that is based on a (denota-tional) least xed point semantics for the sequential components which formalizes the input/output behaviour of the sequential components within one time step. While the operational (declarative) semantics might be the one that a designer (who provides the input for the tool) has in mind the denotational (procedural) semantics is the one that the compiler of Probabilistic VERUS uses. We establish a consistency result stating that the Markov chains induced by the operational and denotational semantics are bisimilar in the sense of LS91].

Understanding the semantic principles of a political map
The attempt to recognize phenomena and affairs has always been a concern of the human mind and has constantly sought to complete this knowledge. The correct recognition is also achieved when the real nature of phenomena is clear to man. The phenomena are based on their own philosophical foundations and, therefore, their understanding requires perception these philosophical foundations and using...
متن کاملVariables Characteristics Effects on Static and Pseudo-Static Reliability-Based Design of near Slope Shallow Foundations
Given the concept of reliability-based design (RBD) and the growing risk management trend in geotechnical engineering, proper understanding and quantification of uncertainties are very important. The complexity of methods and a large volume of calculations of probabilistic design methods are the most critical reasons for civil engineers not to be comfortable using these approaches. In this rese...
متن کاملOn the Role of Derivational Processes in the Formation of Non-Taxonomic Classes of Lexical Units in Russian
The paper is focused on classes of lexical units which arise as a result of derivational processes – word formation and semantic transfers, acting either in isolation or together, on the basis of common semantic foundations that bind targets and sources of derivation. The lexical items which constitute the classes under study vary in their denotative characteristics and due to their categ...
متن کاملRelationships Between Probabilistic Description and First-Order Logics
This paper analyzes the probabilistic description logic P-SHIQ as a fragment of first-order probabilistic logic (FOPL). P-SHIQ was suggested as a language that is capable of representing and reasoning about different kinds of uncertainty in ontologies, namely generic probabilistic relationships between concepts and probabilistic facts about individuals. However, some semantic properties of P-SH...
متن کاملHermeneutic Analysis of Transcendental Medicine Theory and its Application in Deep Medicine from the Perspective of Islamic Medicine Paradigm
The principles of Islamic medicine are still unknown. Although various studies about Islamic medicine have been carried out, the philosophical foundations and framework of the theorizing of it have not yet been elucidated. Some of theorists have explored transcendental medicine theory (TMT) and its application in deep medicine paradigm. For studying of theoretical framework of the TMT, the pres...
